Oh my goodness I'm loving India! One of my favorite things here is our bus rides In and out out of the villages! I have become such good friends with one of our Drivers Anand! He is so much fun to be around its like having a personal tour guide! He takes such good care of us. My favorite thing he says is "careful mam" in his cute accent! He is always so interested in hearing our stories and teaching us the language.
Recently on our way to a Colony he would pull over whenever we passed monkeys so we could take pictures! It is so amazing how many monkeys there are here! It's absolutely crazy! We passed huge families of monkeys. When we would stop we would throw food out the window and five or more monkeys would come running up to the bus to get the food!
I love this picture! The eyes on this monkey is so piercing!
Look close! This one has a baby on her tummy!
On the way home from the colonies we always stop at what they call the Junction! Its like a swap meet! Lots of vendors and little shops selling all different kinds of things. Jewelry, food, ice cream, clothes, flowers and lots of things that I have no clue what it is. Chenelle, Krissy and I take turns buying each other a Coke or Pepsi from the junction each time we go into the junction!
On Friday we asked Anand to take us to get coconut. We were so excited! Anand took us to a place In the Junction that looked pretty sketchy. They had cut up coconut on the ground covered in flies. The men working with the coconuts cut of the top a d put a straw in it to drink the milk inside.
I tried to tell Anand that I wanted a coconut that I could eat. Anand speaks English pretty well but still misunderstands once in a while. I sipped a little of the milk but I let Anand have the rest. He took out the straw and downed the warm coconut milk. He told the man something in Tamil and he split the coconut open and scooped out the middle. The coconut was all slimy. He kept saying "Sham you eat" I said "no I want hard coconut but he just kept pushing until I put it in my mouth? Right as I ate it Sandra calls out "your eating snot" which was exactly the texture. It took everything in me to keep it down.
This is Anand!
Snotty textured coconutThanks Sandra!
