Day One

Today is the morning of my second day on the rising star campus. I was so tired yesterday that I didn't post what my day was like here at the rising star!
The Rising Star bus picked us up from
our hotel in Chennai around 10:30. Miranda Rigby (one of our summer coordinators) picked us up said we are going to go to the ATM to exchange money and then to a store called reliance fresh to grab some food and snacks for our two hour ride to the Rising star campus. The bus was hot, bumpy and long; but it will be one I will never forget. My eyes have been opened to so much here in India. I feel how truly blessed I am to live in America. To have clean streets, food to eat, shoes to wear. That I can choose the man I want to marry. (they have arranged marriages)
We then arrived at the school! You could see the excitement in the volunteers faces as we stepped off the bus to where we will be living for the next three weeks!
The Elephant house is where all the Volunteers stay. It's beautiful and so clean! We have fans and Air Conditioned rooms. (sometimes) which is truly a blessing!
We had orientation, then we had a few minutes to get settled and we were off to play with the kids until dinner!
The kids are so beautiful, ages ranging from 5 to 16! They love to be chased and love to play soccer. I met a few boys who loved the camera.they wanted to dance and pose and watch the videos over and over.
After playing with the kids we went back and ate a wonderful Indian dinner. They served it on a banana leaf! All the volunteers sit together on the rooftop as a family.
At 7:30 we then are separated into families. There is a house mom for every twenty children. Three volunteers go into what we call family time and play with the children and help the house mother get them ready for bed. I loved this time. My family is all boys. I'm still learning their names but I enjoyed spending time getting to know them!
I came home after washed my face and brushed my teeth and passed out after a long few days of traveling. I miss my family but I knows I'll be home soon. I love being here and can't wait to see what today brings
