Take a drive with me! I can't wait to share my rollercoaster ride!
Here in India I think whatever goes when your out on the roads. I think that the driving here was The first thing that really shocked me. I kind of feel like I'm on the Indiana Jones ride at DisneyLand! The roads are narrow with only two lanes but I guess the lines painted in the road mean nothing! When I look out the window I see like five or six lanes of cars constantly trying to go around one another. There are no boundaries!
I cant believe how close the vehicles drive next to one another. It's like when your about to get hit by the big boulder in the ride at Disneyland and you just miss it!
It's interesting to see how different it is here on the roads. I never thought that my trip to india would make me grateful for getting tickets at home for breaking driving rules. I'm honestly surprised we haven't seen any accidents!
One thing that really disturbs me is when I see full on Families riding on a motorcycle and the only person wearing a helmet is the man! I see this dozens of times on the road. Gas prices are very high here so I understand the use of a bike but I can't imagine riding side saddle with a baby in my arms on a bike!
I was told that honking is being courteous! The honking never stops here! I thought that it was bad in California but they have nothing on India! They don't ever use blinkers. They drive on the wrong side of the road with traffic coming at you, why? because to make a U turn is too far away. You can be in the far lane and want to cross and everyone better watch out because you don't care! There have been countless times that we have come to a stop just inches away from hitting something. And by something it could be cows!, dogs, monkeys, goats, people, other cars and anything else you can imagine. Crossing the street on foot is the most dangerous thing I've done here!
This is our First day! Driving was scary! Ah! Thank goodness for good drivers
I also love seeing trucks full of men! When I say full I mean packed! I read a label on one of the trucks that said "Friend Carrier" and that's what it meant. Loads of friendly men! Just piled in the back!
Notice the men sitting in the bottom!
One of our drivers told us that the Police have Sundays of so it's a free day. All I could think about is "it's a free day? How can they have anymore freedom on the roads then they already do".
I'm to a point now that it takes a lot for something in the car to scare me! I'm mostly excited about the bus rides. It's kind of a thrill! But it truly makes me so grateful to know that there are driving laws at home that are protecting me and my family on the roads. Especially my sweet nephews back at home!
I can't imagine them on a motorcycle! I like to picture them safe in car seats.
On the way home from the colonies we always stop at what they call the Junction! Its like a swap meet! Lots of vendors and little shops selling all different kinds of things. Jewelry, food, ice cream, clothes, flowers and lots of things that I have no clue what it is. Chenelle, Krissy and I take turns buying each other a Coke or Pepsi from the junction each time we go into the junction!
These bus rides mean so much to me! There is so much to see, to feel and to experience. So much fun to be had with all the other volunteers. We sing and laugh and are loving these times and experiences! I love that I'm sharing this experience with two of my best friends! I love you Chen and Kris!
